Mathias secures Nationwide card

mg(1).JPG

Mathias did not finish top-25 at the PGA TOUR Q-School, however a strong final round allowed him to capture membership on the Nationwide Tour for 2012. He finished T-36th (67-76-70-74-70-69) and top-50 received Nationwide Tour cards.

"Well, I am of course not happy missing out on one of the 25 PGA TOUR cards, but I did my best and hung in there. My iron play was not 100 % and that will hurt your game on such tough courses as it was this week" Mathias said after the final Q-School round.

Mathias was first looking to go to the European Tour School final, but decided to cancel.
"I will focus on the Nationwide Tour next year. I do plan to play a number of ET events depending on my schedule and potential invites" Mathias continued.

Over the next couple weeks Mathias will practice hard and at the moment it looks like he will try and go to South Africa and play the Sunshine/European Tour events.

We will post more information on his schedule once it gets official.

Tough 2nd day for MG

Mathias did not find his game at all during the second round of Q-School. He got off to a poor start with a bogey, double bogey and was not able to recover. He finished with a 4 over par round (76) and fell from T10th to a T57th place, still he is only 4 shots behind top-25. 4 days of golf remains and there is plenty of room to bounce back for Mathias.

"I played terrible today, and the conditions where much tougher. I did my best, but that was not enought today. Tomorrow I will have to dig deep and get back into contention" Mathias said after the round.

The leaders are currently at -10 and top-25 mark is -5 (Mathias is -1).

Q-School Final: Solid start

Mathias got off to a great start at the PGA TOUR Q-School final. He shot a 67 (-5) and is currently in T10 place. Top-25 after 6 rounds will get full PGA TOUR status for 2012 season.

"I played well today, hitting the ball great and also made a few putts. This week is of course very special and you need to play smart golf. Too many mistakes and you are out of it " Mathias said after the round.

Will Claxton and Daniel Summerhays leads the event after shooting 64's (-8).
